In March of 2005, the band HARLLEQUIN rose from a blend of thrash metal, progressive and traditional heavy metal, which strongly influenced the members Fabrício Moraes, Cesar Zolhof and Mário Linhares. The guitarist, Fabrício Moraes, composed most of the music, while vocalist, Mário Linhares (ex-Dark Avenger), put melodies and lyrics together. Thus emerged songs like "King of the Dead", "Overshadow", "The Bride", to mention a few. As bass player, they invited the talented Gustavo Vieira, who brought along the keyboard player Pedro Val. Both of them contributed significantly to the new arrangements and songs, produced by this well-knit group of five gifted musicians. Gustavo Vieira later decided to give more time to personal projects and was replaced by Caio Duarte. The guys concluded the composition of their Demo CD, "King of the Dead" and began the search for wider contacts in the music world. HARLLEQUIN had not yet made their debut, and really desired for it to be a memorable event. So the band sent their demo to the producers of the famous and highly disputed Brazil Metal Union Festival - 2005, and was awarded the opening slot on the second night. Taking this step, HARLLEQUIN could now play alongside great national bands, like Eterna, Tuatha de Danann, Torture Squad, Khallice, a.o. This BMU 2005 presentation gave rise to the CD and DVD "Live in São Paulo", where the band show their compositions at full force, as well as the energy of their musicians in a surprisingly vivid performance. The unity, talent and determination of the group have been fundamental in establishing the HARLLEQUIN as a reference on the national and international metal scene, and the performances to live audiences portrayed their musical quality. The band took full advantage of this moment, presenting various shows from then on, in the cities of São Paulo/SP. Teresina/PI, Brasília/DF and others. In 2006 the band went through a few changes: the drummer, Kayo John, substituted Cezar Zolhof and the guitarists, Júlio Cesar and Ian Lucena substituted Fabrício Moraes. HARLLEQUIN now consists of: Mário Linhares as vocalist, Pedro Val on keyboards, Caio Duarte on bass, Kayo John on the drums, and Julio Cesar and Ian Lucena on the guitars. The band has set the worldwide release of their first album for March of 2007, after which they intend to tour as much as possible, showcasing the saga of "the Arlequim Band"; a Spanish legend about a group of knights who, cursed by the King of the Dead, were condemned to roam through eternity, unreachable by anyone, moving through a dimension in which they were alive to the dead and dead to the living. The leader of these knights, Hella, who was afraid to love, carries the burden of having brought the curse onto the group, as well as being the only hope of liberation from it. Hella, a boy born into a decent family of XV century, in a small Spanish village called Liñares, since his early years, was tormented by a dream in which an angel appears to save him from the end of the world in the midst of a torrential storm. The angel cuts a deal with Hella, saying that to be saved from the storm the boy must promise never to love. When he grows up and meets the King of the Dead, the truth is revealed to Hella in his dreams. These discoveries that transform truth into lies and certitude into illusion, surely generate a wide range of emotions in the interpretation of each of the songs contained in the first album of the HARLLEQUIN. It's worthwhile to lend them your ear!
